iPad and Fei
5/29/10You now have your very own computer! Or, I guess Steve Jobs doesn't like to call it a computer. It's your very own iPad.
We woke up early Friday morning and took a train to Zürich. You and Yuer slept in strollers as we got going so for you it must have been quite an interesting moment to wake up at the train station!
When we got to the Apple Store in Zürich, there was a long line, probably a hundred people before us. I was afraid you would not like queuing for a long time, but to my great surprise you behaved really well.
A lot of people around us and the trams that strolled by every few minutes kept you pretty busy. I got us some breakfast from McDonald's nearby, and so most of the time we actually spent enjoying a croissant, cereals and some orange juice.
And as a special treat to me, Starbucks was serving free coffee to everyone in line. You don't drink coffee of course, but somehow you're always happy to notice that daddy has a cup of coffee in hand.
Just as we got to the door, local TV channel Tele Züri wanted to ask us some questions. I guess the family with two kids in stollers stood out from the mostly young male crowd pretty noticeably. They were especially interested in you, if you'll be getting your own iPad. And sure enough you were! In the evening news they showed a piece of the interview, so you're now officially a TV star in Switzerland!

We finally got the iPad then, and headed back home. I wasn't expecting much from it, just thought it'd mainly be fun for you to play with and perhaps browse the CBeebies website or something.
However, it turned out the iPad is much cooler than that. I mean, by the time you are old enough to read this blog by yourself, the iPad will be hopelessly antiqued piece of history, but what it offers right now is a pretty cool little computer which is so easy to use that a 2.5-year old can do it!
We bought a few apps for you from the excellent kids apps selection they have, and so far your absolute favorite has been an app called Drawing Pad. It's basically a simple drawing program which lets you choose different types of pens and brushes, different colors - and best of all - apply stickers on the picture as well.
There are probably hundreds of stickers to choose from. Cars, animals, etc. You can use your finger to move them around the screen, and even zoom and rotate. And that is just *so* fun!
I'm amazed that you immediately knew how to use the user interface. You know how to go back tot he main screen, choose which type of pen or sticker you want, and then make your selection.
We have a few other interesting apps waiting as well, for learning to read and write, some math, etc., but for now you're just way too interested in drawing to even look at them!
